H2 Ignition Trouble Shooting
This contents treat possibility of a trouble to be caused by electric
parts under three heads.
Choose your trouble from the following list. The next check a head of
case. These heads point out possibility of a trouble for a problem.
First pill off the spark plug wires and use a good plug to test the spark for each cylinder.
[ Engine will not start at all ]
(1) Strong spark all cylinders
- Trouble outside ignition system ⇒ To check the fuel system and carburetor
- Plug firing in wrong order due to wrong wiring ⇒ To check spark plug wiring
- Plugs bad ⇒ Replace spark plug
(2) Weak spark all cylinders
- AC generator bad ⇒ To check the generator
- Ignition rectifier unit bad ⇒ To check the ignition rectifier unit
(3) No spark any cylinder
- AC generator bad ⇒ To check the generator
- Ignition unit bad ⇒ To check ignition units
- Ignition rectifier unit bad ⇒ To check the ignition rectifier unit
- Wiring faulty ⇒ To check connection for all ignition system wiring
[ Hard to start or power ]
(1) Strong spark all cylinder
- Trouble outside ignition system ⇒ To check the fuel system or engine parts
- Plug(s) dirty or bad ⇒ To cleaning or replace spark plug(s)
- Timing incorrect ⇒ To check ignition timing
(2) Weak spark all cylinders
- AC generator bad ⇒ To check the generator
- Ignition rectifier unit bad ⇒ To check the ignition rectifier unit
- AC generator low speed winding bad
(3) Weak spark one cylinder
- High voltage insulation leak ⇒ To check wiring and spark plug cap
- Ignition coil going bad ⇒ To check ignition coil(s) wiring
- Ignition unit bad ⇒ To check ignition units
- Ignition rectifier unit bad ⇒ To check the ignition rectifier unit
- Pickup coil bad ⇒ To check the signal pickup coil(s)
- AC generator low speed winding bad
[ No power or missing at high speed ]
(1) Strong spark all cylinders
- Trouble outside ignition system ⇒ To check the fuel system or engine parts
- Plug(s) dirty or bad ⇒ To cleaning or replace spark plug(s)
- Timing incorrect ⇒ To check ignition timing
- AC generator high speed winding bad ⇒ To check the generator
(2) Weak or no spark one cylinder
- AC generator bad ⇒ To check the generator
- Ignition unit bad ⇒ To check ignition units
- Ignition coil bad ⇒ To check ignition coil(s)
- Wiring bad ⇒ To check all wiring
- Pickup coil bad ⇒ To check the signal pickup coil(s)
