Bulletin No. H-1-2 | OIL PUMP ADJUSTMENT | September 9. 1969

OIL PUMP ADJUSTMENT

Because of the volume of the H-1 oil pump it is necessary to use what appears to be a very lean setting. The normal setting for an oil pump would be for the pump to open at the same time the slides in the carburetors open. However, with the H-1 it is necessary to adjust the oil pump so that it starts to open when the slides have been raised 1/8 of an inch. Sometimes the inner cable of the oil pump cable is too short to allow the oil pump to be adjusted correctly. If this is the case, then it may be necessary to remove the lock-nut from the adjuster on the oil pump cable and place it on the opposite side of holder. In some cases, the removal of the lock-nut will still not allow the pump to be adjusted correctly. In this case, it will be necessary to alter the oil pump, as shown below.

Fig 1

As shown in the picture - the original tab and the shaded portion should be ground away and a slot cut in the pump as shown. Then a new tab can be bent up to catch the end of the cable. This gives about 1/8 inch more adjustment on the cable. It also pulls the end of the cable down and away from the H.T. lead from the adjuster.
NOTE: The factory is in the process of change the cables so that the proper adjustment can be made. Therefore, the later H-1's should be checked before making any alterations.
