'07 PRODUCT PLAN

Shift Fork Set for the H Series

In 2000 Project H2 planned to produce a Transmission Kit and a Shift Fork Set for the H Series. The first Transmission Kit was completed in 2001, but there were numerous production issues revolving around the Shift Fork Sets. This February, after seven years we are finally able to begin the Shift Fork Set for the H Series Project.

To produce shift forks, technical issues such as molds, treatments/processes, cost considerations, designs and other issues turned a rather simple part into a production nightmare. Due to various obstacles, the project had to be reworked numerous times. If costs were not an issue, a perfect replica of the original could be manufactured. However our small lot of shift forks would then need to be produced by a factory that does large lots for motorcycle manufacturers, naturally making costs exorbitant. In order to realistically produce the forks we had to take the following two things into consideration: a venue that would enable us to produce a small lot, yet maintain quality, and the use of modern technology. As a result, we have devised a way to produce the forks under the following conditions:

As we have stated before, we would not be able to make the cost of producing a small lot of perfect replicas feasible. Therefore the most realistic solution was to utilize new technology that was not available 36 years ago. The prongs of the original H2 shift forks were chrome-plated to protect against wear and tear. This is an appropriate preventive measure, however this method is currently no longer used for such parts and would only drive up costs. To address durability issues, the fork prongs will be produced with the same technology applied to the production of sequential transmissions, resulting in the same level of durability as the original part. Using these technologies, we now need to ensure these new shift forks will perform properly.

The next issue is the problem of cost. In order to produce the forks there are huge expenses that will exceed our limitations. Like our start up Connecting Rod Kit Project in 1999, we will be taking orders in advanced for the Shift Fork Sets for the minimum necessary to produce a lot. Payment will be requested to at the time of the order. Once the minimum has been reached, the order will be processed. In the event we do not meet the necessary minimum orders, Project H2 will refund in full the amount of all payments received.

Once the order is placed the production schedule will be as follows:

Shift Fork Set Specifications

Note: In most part catalogs, the H Series second and third shift forks are generically referred to as the top shift forks, however, from 1974 each fork is listed individually (low, second and third).

This is where we are with the project at this time. We will release more details as information becomes available. If you have any questions, or comments, please contact us at P.A. FACTORY
